Gran Hotel de Querétaro

The hotel location is unbeatable. The rate included a basic but decent breakfast buffet offered from Monday-Friday. The rooms are quite dated and in an urgent need of a good renovation. The carpet at the rooms are ghastly, burned, dirty, torn and burned. The staff is super friendly and extremely helpful. They truly make a difference.

Excellent service, especially for guests traveling with kids, as we were.

Great facility, decent prices. Located in the middle of bustling Square, the Gran hotel has street shopping, stores, and more very near by. At night the squares are full of people selling, buying, and just going for a walk. The hotel itself was very clean. Rooms were spacious and accommodating. Bathrooms are large with an impressive shower. All very clean and the staff is welcoming. The hotel does have hot showers, wifi, and breakfast just up the stairs. As a whole, the structure is large and impressive with Mexico styling. We have a sizeable group and we're happy with our stay.

The hotel was great and large rooms. Breakfast not worth it. We read some reviews about the bells but really the bells go off all over town and at night they tone them down so if you sleep light request an inside room or leave the TV on you don't even really notice them. There is some city noise but it's down town center. And we had a corner room road way bellow I rather have the views. Stunning architecture...

Leaving the Gran Hotel through the narrow side door on Calle Allende (the same doorway Jesuit novices once used when this was the Colegio de San Francisco Javier), I walked straight toward Jardín Zenea and encountered an anachronism fixed directly into the stone. Along the eastern edge of the plaza stood a long, unbroken line of approximately thirty fixed shoe-shine stations. These tall black metal chairs with brass footrests were bolted neatly in line to the pavement, silent and empty, facing the garden like public furniture,,. In most major global cities, such extensive shoe-shine operations vanished decades ago, yet here in Querétaro, they looked permanent. Behind the row of chairs rose the red façades of Querétaro’s Franciscan heart, encompassing the hotel, the Templo de San Francisco, and the Museo Regional. Three centuries ago, this cluster of buildings managed faith, education, and silver alike; it was the machinery of both salvation and empire. Today the novices’ dormitories have become suites, their refectory a breakfast hall. But the past still lingers in the geometry of obedience. When I later asked the concierge why shoe-shining remained so abundant here (while it had disappeared from most large cities like Mexico City and Guadalajara), he had a ready explanation. He clarified that in Querétaro, shining one’s shoes remains a potent symbol of respect (respeto),. A man's shoes are his presentación, signaling his personal pride, discipline, and readiness,. This custom is upheld by the professional class (the bankers, engineers, and functionaries) because they must look impecable. However, the full meaning of this daily practice is etched into the very design of the chairs themselves, carrying a history far deeper than business etiquette. That high seat, the two steps, and the forward footrest are not a Spanish or colonial invention,. They descend directly from the icpalli, the benches used by Mesoamerican lords, or specifically Otomí and Chichimeca lords. Before important ceremonies, attendants would wash and ritually prepare the noble's feet. In pre-Hispanic thought, the foot was a point of sacred connection to the earth, making the cleansing a ritual of preparation. The Spanish, recognizing the ritual's power, banned the custom,. Its return, disguised, is often marked by the Virgin of Guadalupe sticker visible on the shiner’s box,. By mid-morning, the plaza becomes a tableau of this profound layering. A young engineer in a slim suit sits enthroned high above everyone around him while an older man, often speaking Otomí, kneels to work,,. For three minutes, the social pyramid is inverted, yet both participants understand it as a quiet transaction of dignity. The shoe shine chair is a stage for negotiation. This unbroken ritual is a daily performance that asserts a devotion not to empire or church, but rather to human dignity itself. Thank you for your great service! All the staff was knowledgeable about their city and always gave great directions and wonderful recommendations. The hotel is beautiful and it has an ELEVATOR which is helpful when traveling with an 84 year old. Tikua restaurants was one of their recommendations and after 10 days of eating out I found them to be THE BEST restaurant in Queretaro! Hasta la proximal Gran Hotel

We had an absolutely fabulous time in Queretaro. The Grand is a lovely hotel, beautiful inside and out. Clean and comfortable with excellent views. Service for every need is immediate and friendly. Security is fantastic and an excellent choice for all ages.

It is my third time at the Gran Hotel, and I both love it, and an not happy. The location and building are spectacular - right in the middle of old town and beautifully decorated. The amenities are not perfect - internet didn't work (but they fixed after a couple hours of complaints), one of the three times they checked me into an occupied room which was embarrassing, breakfast mediocre, and in general just never felt welcome or at home. So the location and physical asset are 5 stars all the way, but everything else about it a 3 star experience. Its not a "business" hotel, so if you are a business traveler, try something else, but for the tourist traveler who needs not the conveniences offered by "business" hotels, this is a decent choice and a good value..
